The Moment

Overview

It is an AR storytelling project which includes two different story lines for the male group and female group. This story is talking about how two strangers meet with each other and fall in love with each other. The story will lead our users to follow the two characters o explore their stories happened in NYC's different locations. During this period, users will also explore New York City’s famous landmarks. We picked Rockefeller Center at this time. By following with these two store lines, our users’ paths will also come cross together.

The Moment is an immersive Motion Capture and dance performance AR installation inspired by traditional Tango Dance. It tells how two real people meet each other in New York City. By scanning different poster in different attraction, viewers can see their narrative movement through their performance.

Process

Discovery

There have many lovely moments happened in New York City and the most sweet thing is how strangers become friends and even partners. We hope we can provide this chance to our users to meet with different people in New York City and start their own stories.

Target Audience

Who will love this project?

  • People who love live performance - explore charming stories

  • People who come to NYC at the first time - explore NYC landmarks

  • People who want to meet new friends - have the opportunity to meet with other users in Brooklyn Bridge (the endpoint of our stories)

User Flow

Our stories are how two strangers meet with each other and fall in love with each other. By following with these two store lines, our users’ paths will also come cross together. We hope the moments that they meet can also help them create more special moments in NYC and even in their lives together (like they may can become friends or lovers later, it’s up to users themselves).

Storyboard

Preset:

We want to set up a poster in Grand Central Terminal. People can scan the QR code to download our app “The Moment” to start their trips. Our system provides two characters. Users can choose one character that they like to follow with. All of their stories will start in the Grand Central Terminal:

First: Strangers in Grand Central Terminal

Group A: Annie checks her schedule and it mentions that her first activity in NYC is watching a show in Central Park. She walks past a man (Joey) who is looking at the watch.

Group B: Joey is watching at his watch to check the time and then received a message that he need go to central park to meet with his friend. A girl (Annie) walks past him.

Second: Meet in Central Park

Group A & B: Annie was running in Central Park then sitting on a bench. After a while, Joey sits down and then they talk with each other for a long time. They enjoys their talk and decide to hang out one day. (add new function - message to each other?)

Third: Date in Rockefeller Center

Group A & B: Annie and Joey are dancing in Rockefeller Center

Fourth: Propose in Brooklyn Bridge

Group B: Joey decides to propose to Annie. He leaves the sentence (maybe we can allow the Group B users to create the scene by themselves but the technological point is how to ensure the Group A can see it perfectly) and send message to Annie

Group A: Annie received Joey’s message and arrives Brooklyn Bridge. Annie follows the sign to arrive the special point and see the beautiful scene created by Joey (actually created by Group B’s users)

Group A & B: Joey proposes. Annie says yes. They hug for a long time

Fifth: The story is not end… (ideal step)

At that time, Group A and Group B will meet at Brooklyn Bridge. The app will tell them it is not the end of Annie and Joey’ (also their own) story. They still can use The Moments to create their own moments and send the location to the other group to let them find what they leave if they are interested in.

It is the connection of these two groups. “They are all Annies and Joeys.”

Implementation

Iteration

We got some positive feedback from users about using this app especially for tourists who want to have a better experience around NYC city. In the future, we will continue developing more spaces and more functions
